Ambrose Trivia - David C. Sutherland III David C. Sutherland III, grandson of Ambrose resident David C. Sutherland, was the seminal artist of Dungeons & Dragons, Advanced Dungeons & Dragons and the fantasy world of Professor M. A. R. Barker's Tekumel. David helped shape the very roots of the role-playing game industry. Starting in 1974, David produced countless illustrations and cartography work at an incredible rate. For generations of players, he helped illustrate the games of their imagination: war games, role-playing games, strategy games, and board games. David did it all with the care and intensity that only a true fan of the historical, sci-fi, and fantasy game genre could uphold. For the players, David's illustrations and maps became the canvas of their youth and fond sentiments. The breadth and depth of his work is a roadmap for the history of the industry. David passed away in June 2005 at age 56.
