Family History - Charles
Vincent & Borghild Cowley Charles Vincent Cowley, known as "Vince", was born to Mr. and Mrs. Tom Cowley on his parent's homestead in Sheridan county, Montana. He came with his parents to Ambrose at the age of five. Borghild Eide was born in Minnesota and came with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Emil Eide, to their homestead in Garnet township. In 1933 Vince and I were both employed at Good Samaritan hospital and by 1934 mutually agreed to enter into the partnership of marriage; the ceremony was performed by Rev. Ranum at Crosby. Since that time, we have maintained our residency here. We have a family of two daughters and one son. Beverly (Mrs. Robert Keller) of Bisbee, N. D., is a nurse instructor of the Indian pilot program in Practical Nursing at Belcourt, N. D. and also an emergency assistant in the coronary intensive care unit at Cando, N. D. hospital. Gene, after teaching for seven years, holds a position at Minot Federal Savings and Loan in Minot and Williston. Yvonne (Mrs. Delroy Gorecki) is supervisor of instructors at Northwestern Abbott School of Nursing in Minneapolis. We have five grandsons and three granddaughters. Going back to the "dirty thirties", shall we say "pickin' was slim", but with much determination and looking ahead, we, like thousands of others made it through. We have held jobs of various capacities - railroading, custodial work, nursing aide, lefsa baking, milk delivery and Vince playing piano in various dance bands always kept food on the table. Following his discharge from the Armed Services, Vince attended M. S. C. and has taught since 1953 until this past year when he has taken time off to recuperate after several illnesses. After employment as matron of Good Samaritan Home in Ambrose, I have held a job as nursing aide at St. Luke’s hospital at Crosby, beginning my seventeenth year. We have experienced both good and bad times but the good has far outnumbered the bad and we are especially thankful for our family and friends and that we "live in the land of the free and home of the brave".
