Family History - Omer G. & Anna Stylen Stenson

Omer G. Stenson was born near Glenwood, Minn., in 1886, to Mr. and Mrs. Steen Stenson.  Omer attended school and grew to manhood in the Glenwood area.  In 1911 he came to Ambrose, then filed on a homestead in the Westby area.  In 1914 he was married to Miss Anna Stylen of La Crosse, Wisc.

They came to the homestead, where they lived a short time, and then moved to a farm two miles north of Ambrose, where they farmed for many years.

In 1918 Rudie Anderson, a nephew, and in 1920, Gladys Ray, a niece, came to make their home with Omer and Aunty and they lived there until they were grown up.  Clarence and Evelyn Ray, Gladys's brother and sister, also lived with them part of the time.

In 1942 they moved into Ambrose and Omer helped organize the locker plant, which he managed from 1949 to 1958, when it was destroyed by fire.

Omer was very active in community affairs. He helped get a post office building and a cafe operating in Ambrose. Both Omer and Aunty were active members of the Ambrose Lutheran church.

They continued to live in Ambrose after retirement, where they celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in 1964.  Omer passed away in 1964, and Anna passed away in 1967.
